Review on Grand Dorsett Subang Hotel

How often do you dine in hotels? Better yet, how much do you like dining in hotels? The need to pamper yourself kicks in from time to time, but here's the question, why not? Maybe pampering your love ones seems more applicable (Father's Day is coming *hint hint*). So, break your daily routine, do something spontaneous and have a spark of class to it.

I was recently invited for a food review in Grand Dorsett Suabng Hotel. Was very much delighted to be Edwin Chan (Author of Click Click Culinary) 's plus one, and many thanks to Edwin Anthony, Marketing Communications Manager, for the invitations.

Aroma Cafe @ Grand Dorsett Subang Hotel

All the bloggers were firstly gathered at Aroma Cafe to have light afternoon tea session before they brought us around the hotel to have a look.

Afternoon tea was served through buffet style where they had different varieties of delicious looking food, from our malaysian style kuih muih, to pisang goreng and currypuffs, to really good pastries such as strawberry tarts, salmon and tune sandwiches. I have to say, I really enjoyed the salmon sandwich and the strawberry tarts. The salmon sandwich was something different and it had a unique taste to it, good compliment. The strawberry tarts was not too sweet nor was it too blend, just nice amount of custard in it, simply delicious.

On the downside however, I didn't like the service there. Again, waiters might only be a small part of a grand hotel, but they play a role big enough to keep a smile on the customers face. Waiters looked really obligated to serve us. More over, we waited quite long for our drinks to arrive, and had to remind them a couple of times. This makes me query about their efficiency.

Anyhow, girls being girls, we had our photo taking session (one of the many other pictures we took. Check out more on facebook)

Had our girl time in the toilet as well. Toilet was located not far from the Cafe which makes everything so much more convenient.

Nonetheless, if you're interested, here's the information I have for you:

3:00pm – 6:00pm

Goreng-Goreng Makan Petang (Monday – Friday)

When the afternoon tea was done, generous Mokhtar Latiff, Asst. Director of Food and Beverage, hosted our tour around the hotel.
Even had a visit up to the rooms as well.
I expected the room to be a little more spacious, but I have to say that the design of the room was rather fascinating.

Many of us enjoyed the transparent glass at the toilet, out towards the room

After taking a look at the rooms and resisted the temptation of jumping onto the bed, we headed off the the lounge, some what like a common room for the hotel customers to have a snack or two with a relaxing glass of white or red white, accompanied by a wide view of the subang area.

Environment of the lounge was rather comforting

Decorations they have around the lounge.

Did I mention that there were food?
Small snacks were just right at the moment.

Not too big a portion, not too small a portion.
The lounge was a place to enjoy talking, and listening to music instead of having a meal.

Healthy snacks?

We enjoyed the red and white, I personally enjoyed the white wine more.

As for dinner, we were all divided into 3 different sections.
  1. The Empire - Chinese Cuisine
  2. Terazza Brasserie - The Buffet
  3. Miyako Japanese Restaurant - Japanese Buffet

The Empire - Chinese Cuisine
Its has a very soothing environment, with a very Chinese styled like bridge over a water structure at the entrance of the restaurant. I feel it would be a good place to hold a Chinese Styled Wedding (a small one though). The picture on the left shows how a private room in The Empire is. Spacious and comfortable enough to enjoy a really good meal.

Miyako Japanese Restaurant
As for me, I attending the Japanese Restaurant. What can I say, I'm a sushi lover.

The restaurant had a rather simple Japanese like garden, nothing very wow-ed about, but nonetheless, it was simple and classy. Table decoration fascinated me, napkins were creatively folded like a kimono top and the restaurant was dim/bright enough to create a very relaxing atmosphere.

However, here's one thing I really have to point out.
For a restaurant with such class, having spelling mistakes on their table menu is honestly unacceptable.

First Mistake : Dish 1#
Maguro No Shake Tataki
Seared Tuna and SLAMON (Salmon) with Marinated Green Seaweed in Rice Paper Roll

Second Mistake : Dish 4#
Shake Yasai Maki Frai (Deep FRIEND [Fried])

In such a restaurant, in such hotel, minor mistakes like these should never happen.

Anyhow, dinner at the restaurant was accompanied by Tan May Lee, Marketing Communications Manager, and  Angie Ng, Area Reveneu Manager, together with Edwin Chan, Nor Elwyn, Rebecca Saw and Sharon Tan.

This was the Butter Fish, and I have to say that it was mouth watering, simply satisfying with the freshness in the meat, with a slight crisp on the outside where its grilled. Delightful.

Individual Dishes

Clear Soup
A unique way of serving the dish. Rather fascinating and different.

Lastly, Dessert
In my opinion, I didn't really enjoy the dessert.
It was Green Tea Creme Brulee, tasted odd and was not as sweet as I expected it to be. The others were just on the average side, nothing special. Overall, dining there was really filling, the environment was comforting, the food was alright, much more improvement can be made on the other hand. It was a good experience.
