Impromptu @ Menara Hap Seng

You're probably thinking, "Finally this blog looks rather alive again!" huh?

Yes, I'm having a blogging mojo rush now, and shall be productive as much as I can. At the moment, I'm back to share with you a food review that I attended not long ago. I guess these days when we talked about having good pasta, having a nice comfortable western cuisine meal, we come up with places like Chillies, TGIF, Italanies, and so on. I for one enjoy dining there, on the other hand I have to admit it is rather pricey. So why not try something new?

Ever heard of Nagomi Shabu-Shabu and Dessert's Bar? Well, Impromptu is the sister company newly opened of these both restaurant. Impromptu is less than half a year old, new, fresh and getting good on the go in the restaurant line. Impromptu specializes in home-made pasta going FUSION STYLE.

Edwin Chan, author of Click Click Culinarycollaborated with Eunee, Marketing Manager of Impromptu, organised a food session for 6 at
Impromptu, @ Menara Hap Seng.

The entrance compound of Impromptu

I really like they way the restaurant is designed, the seats are placed in an opened area, and the kitchen is build right behind the entrance compound.

The little things they sell off shelf

Salad dressings, macaroons placed with a nice presentation

An open kitchen where you're able to see the Chef doing his thing with home made pasta!

Menu

Now, lets talk drinks!

Chocolate Milk Shake, Vanilla Milk Shake and Coffee Shake. Cranberry Crush and Lemonade Crush.

I absolutely love vanilla milk shakes, and I expect it to be really good, however, it didn't really reach up to my standard. Firstly, it was way to diluted for my liking, and a little too much milk. Maybe adding a little more ice cream to it would do good. However, I like the fact that they added vanilla pods to it. More pronounced vanilla taste I guess.
I have to say that I personally really enjoyed the Cranberry Crush and Chocolate Milk Shake. I'm not a chocolate drink fan, but I really thought it was way better than the Vanilla Milk Shake was.
.
Lets talk food

Hand-Made Pasta
Price range for these hand made pasta dishes are from
RM 14.90 to RM 19.90

All pasta is served with pasta of the day
(From top to bottom) Mixed Herbs, Charcoal or Plain Spaghetti/Fettuccine

Grilled Chicken Pesto with plain fettuccine
RM 15.90
Pesto sauce is chef's recipe. Made with fresh basil leaves, olive oil & spices.

Nothing really special for me though I enjoyed the grilled chicken.

Curried Soft Shell Crab with Charcoal Spaghetti
RM 18.90
Sauce is combination of cream base (eg. carbonara/alfredo) & masala curry. Soft shell crab is also coated with curry powder & spices and deep fried.

Well, when you hear curry, I guess you expect it to be spicy, at least a little. This was rather creamy like and it wasn't spicy at all. For someone who enjoys spicy food would go, "Is this what I ordered?". What can I say? Too fusion that the dish is missing the whole point of calling it curry?

Seafood Tom Yam with mixed herbs fettuccine
RM 15.90Sauce is combination of cream base & own-made tom yam paste.

I'm gonna say the same thing I said for the dish before. This dish did not taste tomyam like. If I was given a chance to name this dish just by the taste of it, I would called it Lemon Grass Mixed Herd Fettuccine instead. Very strong taste of Lemon Grass (Serai), and thats about it. No sourness or spiciness, and to personally, whats a tomyam dish without the sourness and spiciness.

Lamburger
Own-made juicy lamb patty with spices topped with mango chutney & BBQ sauce.

Lamb Patty was good, though quality of bread can be improved.

Sauteed Mushroom & Veggies Panini
RM 14.90
Mixed mushrooms & veggies sauteed with Impromptu sauce served on toasted panini bread. It's a vegetarian dish.

Crispy Crab Cakes
RM 9.90
Made with fresh crab meat & crab stick served with chilli mayo sauce.

Japanese Wafu Salad Dressing
RM 12.90

I absolutely enjoy having Japanese Wafu Salad Dressing dripped all over my salad. However, I have to say that the Wafu Dressing sold in Impromptu can be improved a lot more. It lacks vinegar therefore makes it rather blunt, just not pronounce enough. What can I say, I've tasted one of the best Japanese Wafu Salad Dressing (made by Edwin Chan), I guess I won't settle for second best.

Desserts

Whats a meal without desserts

Chocolate Cheese Brownie with vanilla ice-cream
RM 9.90
Made with Belgian dark chocolate & Philadelphia cream cheese & walnut.

The cake was way too dry for my liking. However I enjoyed the ice cream, creamy enough and again vanilla pod is added in.

Tiramisu
RM 8.90
Non-alcohol

If I was not told that its Tiramisu, I wouldn't know its Tiramisu. Firstly, it was too jelly like - too much gelatine. Secondly, No ladies fingers was used. I would not come back for this dish.

Macaroons
However, it has been removed from menu

It was a pleasure to meet Chef Tunku at the end of the session. A very humble person and was very open to new opinions that we gave. After speaking to him, I would actually like to come back to taste the improvements.
