Winter Solstice Festival

Guess what!!! ITS GUO TONG!

I'm not sure if I got the right pinyin (i'm a banana, oh well), but in English its known as the Winter Solstice Festival. Its one of the biggest festival that we, chinese celebrate annually, besides chinese new year that is. Wanna know more bout this festival? I'll tell you what I know, but then again, i'm not sure if its true or not. oh well, here goes...

Back in those days, not sure which dynasty was it, citizens would celebrate when winter arrives. Like a public holiday in the current days, but more homely. They would cook and offer food to others, family and friends of course. It was also a day for everyone to offer scarifies to the God, or late relatives. These days, its is very well known for having Tong Yuen on the table, however, back then some part of China have red bean soup with glutinous rice to protect themselves from evil. Some other parts of China, have dumplings instead, and some even have cakes. I guess the tradition picked up was the Tong Yuen. 

Hence this post!

I woke up today, and all I hear was.... AHHH I WANNA ROLL, I WANNA MAKE, I WANNA I WANNA I WANNA. Cousin was over, playing with Trisha, and its Guo Tong today, making the Tong Yuen is a must.

put them in room temperature water for a while for them to cool down

Oh the amount of balls I ate. I feel like a fat santarina now! =D
